Build your own native bee house!

Here is a picture guide to building your own native bee house out of items you might have in your recycle bin plus things you can find at your local craft store.

You will need:

Paper cut into 3″x6″ pieces

One 3/8″ wooden dowel

One 25 ounce plastic bottle at least 8″ long

Air drying clay

Paint for the exterior of the bottle

Follow the pictures below to complete the craft, and have fun!

Be sure to cut the bottle in a shape that provides a built-in overhang to protect from rain. Drill a hole in the bottom of the bottle to hang it in your yard.

Hang the house facing South to protect the entrance from direct sunlight.  Additionally, hang the house near flowers and mud.

Paint the exterior of the bottle with leftover paint you may have from previous projects, preferably thick or dark paint to provide insulation from the sun’s heat. Or fun acrylic paint colors you find at a craft store. Let the kids be in charge and have fun!
